Lawrence G. Albrecht
Lawrence G. Albrecht is a founding partner and concentrates his practice in the areas of human/civil rights and employment law. He received a B.A. in English and Political Science from Valparaiso University as a Pullman Foundation Scholar and his J.D. from Valparaiso University School of Law in 1973. He is admitted to practice in the states of Wisconsin and New York and before the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Second, Third, and Seventh Circuits, the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Wisconsin, the Northern District of Indiana and the District of Connecticut. In 2007, he was honored with the ABA Rule of Law Initiative Rule of Law Award.
Mr. Albrecht was formerly the acting Executive Director for Legal Action of Wisconsin, Inc.; visiting Director of Clinical Programs and Asst. Professor of Law, Valparaiso University School of Law; ABA/CEELI Legal Specialist: Romania, Bucharest University Faculty of Law, Bulgaria, Serbia, and a consulting lecturer at ten Balkan region law schools; Adj. Instructor, Constitutional Law, South African Human Rights Law, University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee. He also served as an Assistant Attorney General of the state of New York.
He has represented thousands of individuals in a wide array of judicial and administrative proceedings. He has been lead counsel in federal court class actions on behalf of hundreds of thousands of persons in reported cases involving health care, food stamps and financial benefits for poor children, migrant workers’ rights, and also in civil rights cases regarding employment, mental health, housing and insurance discrimination, wrongful death, police misconduct and political asylum. See recently, e.g., Foth v. KBR, et al., Case No. 09-CV-690 (W.D.Wis), transferred to In re: Battlefield Waste Dispute Litigation, RWT 08:09-3316 (D.Md.) (local counsel in consolidated class action by U.S. personnel against various governmental contractors for injuries suffered as a result of exposures to burn pits in Iraq and Afghanistan); N.B. v. Wausau Sch. Dist. Bd. of Educ., 475 F. Supp. 2d 800 (W.D. Wis., 2007) (sexual harassment of a student-athlete by her coach; case widely cited in other opinions, law review articles and an education law treatise).
Mr. Albrecht is an international human/civil rights lecturer (at, e.g., the Center for International Legal Studies, Salzburg, Austria, University of Trento, Italy, and University of Western Cape, Cape Town, South Africa). He has authored numerous human/civil rights publications and annually publishes on the death penalty.
